Round Table on Queer Health in Central Germany
On May 19, the first “Round Table on Queer Health in Central Germany” of this year will take place. This time, the professional networking group will meet with 4Be TransSuchtHilfe to discuss gender diversity in addiction counseling.
The event will take place online in spoken German.
Since February 2019, Therapiehilfe e.V. has been offering addiction counseling specifically for all trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people. The program provides support from experienced peers and psychotherapists, with a particular use of social media. The current S3 guideline for the diagnosis, counseling, and treatment of gender incongruence, gender dysphoria, and trans health calls for the possibility of continuous contact with community-based counseling services. Gender is a multidimensional space whose dimensions we do not yet fully understand. We know that genetic, anatomical, hormonal, environmental, and psychological factors influence gender, either through their coexistence or through interaction. How these aspects should be considered in addiction counseling, and what experiences and data have emerged from six years of practice, will be presented by psychotherapist Cornelia Kost.
Cornelia Kost is a psychological psychotherapist who studied sexology as an elective subject. Since 1994, she has been working in addiction services at Therapiehilfe gGmbH. Since 2019, she has led 4be-TransSuchtHilfe, the first addiction counseling service in Germany with a focus on gender-diverse people. As a trans woman, she is also active on the board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Trans*- und Intergeschlechtlichkeit e.V. and the VLSP* – Verband für queere Menschen in der Psychologie e.V..
The Round Table on Queer Health is a professional networking group for everyone working in the field of healthcare for queer people. The committee understands itself as multiperspective and aims to contribute to networking across Central Germany. Its goal is to improve healthcare for queer people and to strengthen one another in this field of work.
