“I would so love to shout my life out to the world,” Adele Haas    — an inter* person under the Nazis.

As an inter* person, she was subjected to severe violence during the Nazi era. On October 2, 2026, Jako Wende will give us insight into the life of Adele Haas at the Weimar Women’s Center—to do so, Jako has conducted research in numerous archives and reached out to relatives and neighbors who are still alive. The goal of the lecture is to let Adele shout her life out to the world. In addition to presenting the current state of research on the persecution of inter* people under Nazi Germany, the talk will also highlight other inter* people who were persecuted during that era.

“I could write so much about this, but it makes me so upset—because I’m not allowed to think back on it; today, it feels like a dream to me. I’d so love to shout my life out to the world, but publishing it costs money, and I don’t have any. It must surely be unique and interesting—it’s hard to believe at all; it sounds like a fairy tale—especially that I endured it and am still alive—a miracle,” wrote Adele Haas on March 28, 1961.

Jako Wende, a non-binary endo trans* person, conducts research on the persecution of trans*, inter*, and/or gender-nonconforming people during the Nazi era. In the process, Jako continually discovers new individuals who have not been included in the existing culture of remembrance.

This event, organized by TIAM e.V. as part of the project “TIN* Resilience Through Community – Connecting Trans, Inter, and Non-Binary Individuals Across Regions“ is funded by der Stiftung Deutsches Hilfswerk / der Deutsche Fernsehlotterie.
