Trans Day of Rememberance 2025

The Trans Day of Remembrance (TDoR), observed annually on November 20th, is a worldwide day of remembrance for those who have lost their lives due to hatred, intolerance, and rejection of trans people.
Since the year 2009, the victims have been documented by TGEU. This year, we remember an additional 281 murdered individuals, a number that has steadily increased since the collection began and now exceeds 5000. In 90% of cases, these are femicides. Black people and people of color, as well as sex workers, are most affected by the violence, followed by activists. In Europe, 5 people have lost their lives.
It is important to emphasize that not every person commemorated on the Transgender Day of Remembrance identified as trans—including Drag Queens, Cross-Dressers, and many others. Nonetheless, all of them were victims of violence rooted in transphobic prejudice.
November 20th was chosen as the day of remembrance to honor Rita Hester, whose tragic murder on November 28th, 1998 sparked the creation of the web project „Remembering Our Dead.“ Even today, more than two decades later, her murder—like most murders of trans* people—remains unsolved.
