“Community: Between Then and Now, Here and Elsewhere.”

Inter*, nonbinary, and trans* voices from Saxony and Thuringia on the topic of “Community”

Who or what, exactly, is this community? A community, like the people, places, and social conditions that shape it, is in a state of constant change - often different, yet also somehow enduring and continuous. Sometimes we encounter it in a vague, elusive longing, in our pain, our dreams and utopias, in our family tree, or in a traveling exhibition on historical struggles. We experience community in the presence of loyal friends at our kitchen table, in a note on a bathroom wall, in the forest, and finally, in this magazine that we create together.

Being part of a community gives us the feeling of (finally) belonging. We see ourselves in others; we look out for one another. Within the community, we also experience exclusion and pain. We face discrimination in places where we had hoped to find a home. Sometimes we grow closer, learn, and support one another. Sometimes we drift apart. We organize ourselves as a community to stand up for a shared cause.

This magazine is by the community, for the community. A magazine for us, which we create ourselves.

All inter*, nonbinary, trans*, and agender people from Saxony and Thuringia are warmly invited to submit a contribution.

We woulde specially like to encourage those whose perspectives are often marginalized to submit a contribution. This includes, for example (but is not limited to), people who: - live in rural areas - have migrated to Germany - did not graduate from high school or attend college - are from East Germany - are over 50 years old - have a chronic illness and/or a disability - Black people - Indigenous people - people of color - inter* people

We, the magazine’s editors, will select contributions, curate the magazine, and send it to print. The magazine will be published in both print and digital formats and will be available free of charge.

We welcome a variety of formats in text and images, such as drawings, comics, photographs, poetry, prose, and other forms of writing.
